    Not begging....Just Curious

    Hey, Guys, and Gals,

I know it's considered politically incorrect to ask for advice, or help, when looking for a job; but, here goes.  I have my CDL permit, and would like to find a company willing to take me for hands on over the road driving.  I am 64 years old, and retired from my so called career of 40 plus years.  Yes, Im perfectly capable, and have an excellent driving record.  Im also in very good shape, and excited about driving.  If any of you know of any companies willing to chance training OTR, please let me know. No, I will not consider a driving school.  With my capabilities, I consider it a waste of time, and money.  I'll finance the beer on the return trip. Thanks to all.

Well, in my 54 years of living I have found out that it is politically incorrect to NOT ask questions :). Having asked yours, let me tell you what I have found out in my search. I obtained my CDL in 1975, but have not OTR driving experience that can be verified. Every company that I have looked at - and it is over 15 - requires at least 6 months of recent experience. Since I don't have that I must attend a school. What I think may be a waste of time and money does not matter, I am not making the rules. You may try a small mom and pop company, but the larger ones most likely will not help you.

I can't say they are a great company, or that they pay well, but I got my start with C.R. England.  I already had my cdl as well so I didn't have to go thru their school.  I only had to go for about a week of classroom training, then otr with a trainer for a little while.  If you can put up with that for awhile get 6 months experience then you can go almost anywhere else.
